Materials For Creating a Graphic Novel

A graphic novel is a long narrative, in a comic-strip format. It can either be fictional or non-fictional.

After deciding what your graphic novel will be about and writing a script for it, you will need:

  • Mechanical pencils, for writing dialogue and creating illustrations.

  • Plain white paper, or paper from a sketchbook or a blank comic book.

  • A beveled ruler, for creating panels (if you choose not to use a blank comic book) and for drawing.

  • A pen, for creating panels.

  • A pen, with a fine tip, to ink illustrations.

  • A kneaded eraser, to use after ink dries, to get rid of pencil lines.

  • A scanner, that is compatible with your computer, to go over the pages of your graphic novel.

  • Image-editing software, such as Photoshop, to make alterations to your work.

Next week, I will be blogging about how to prepare for National Novel Writing Month.
